The influence of the Atlantic Ocean in this climate, with cold winters, warm summers, and long, mild autumns, makes grape ripening slow. The soil, mostly clay-limestone and clay-ferrous, is balanced in composition, slightly alkaline, rich in organic matter, with modest water availability during the summer months.
