Despite the huge production, this winery achieves extremely good wines, and all are excellent value for money. Ever since 1983, when Principe de Viana opened its doors in Murchante, the company has followed a path of stunning success and in only 25 years became one of the principal and most prestigious wineries in Navarra.
Constant research and development have created highlights such as Navarra’s first Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé and most recently a Late Harvest Chardonnay. Both wines have not only impressed the world’s wine critics but also been well received by the marketplace.
The Vineyards are situated in the historically privileged area of the Ribera Baja of Navarra. The grape varieties Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Viura (also known as Macabeo) and Chardonnay make up a total planting of 1,400 hectares.
Viticultural management employs the world’s most modern technology aiming for ideal vineyard development. Planting is controlled by GPS and laser marking, while vines are monitored by computers viewing soil humidity sensors, local weather stations and daily plant growth data.
Modern, sustainable methods and a respect for the natural surroundings are employed, with no soil movement or water course modification. This is how grapes of the utmost high quality are achieved and then made into wine, arriving at the winery which itself is impressively large and modern.
