VITICULTURE
Griva's Vineyard, located in the Arroyo Seco AVA, has vineyards that have many elevation changes, also bordering both sides of the Arroyo Seco, spanning over 7000 feet. All of the vineyard soils are Arroyo Seco Loam, which contain more sand, gravel and large stones compared to other places in the region. In the mid 1990s, Michael Griva planted a vineyard, especially for Bernardus, with the famous Sauvignon Blanc clone ‘Musque’. In 2019, he received the California Sustainable Wine Growing Alliance certification, thanks to several initiatives, such as his solar farm, which help him to be more sustainable.
WINEMAKING
All grapes are hand-picked. The Sauvignon Blanc grape is a specific ‘Musque’ clone, and a little Semillion has been added to add complexity and richness. After blending, it is left to rest for several months in thirty year old French oak barrels to enhance all the flavours.
