Founder Bernardus (Ben) Pon, a passionate traveller and lover of good taste, chose Carmel Valley to establish Bernardus Winery, convinced that its climate and location would produce world-class wines. More than 25 years later, his vision became a reality with his Marinus Bordeaux blend and an outstanding selection of single vineyard wines, including Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. He also had the vision to open the first tasting room in Carmel Valley Village, transforming an old bank into a welcoming space to enjoy and learn about his wines, contributing to the growth of wine tourism in the region.
Following Ben's passing in 2019, his business partner Robert van der Wallen, a passionate advocate of quality and innovation, took over the leadership of Bernardus Winery. As an entrepreneur and creator of Bernardus Golf, Robert shares Ben's philosophy of excellence, ensuring that the winery maintains its legacy of exceptional wines. With his love of art, golf and wine, he will continue to drive the Bernardus brand into the future, honouring the passion and commitment of its founder.
