VITICULTURE
The winery owns 50 hectares of its own vineyards, located in the municipality of Roa de Duero, and divided into nine separate parcels. Each distinct vineyard has its own terroir.
The predominant variety of grape is the Tinta del Pais or Tempranillo (45 hectares) completed by a total of 5 hectares of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Albillo.
Each parcel has its own distinct soil, providing a combination of calcareous and clay-lime composite which results in wines of excellent complexity.
WINEMAKING
After harvesting the grapes by hand in small crates, these family estate grapes go through a rigorous hand selection table where the grapes that do not meet our high standards are discarded. This hand selection process is done exclusively by family members.
The grapes are then ready for vinification under strict controls and with a constant regard for the particular expression of their terroir. The wine matures in oak barrels (1-3 years), under constant levels of humidity and temperature, until the wine reaches its perfect maturity.
The barrels are 60% French oak and 40% American oak. Once the wine has matured in barrel, we taste the barrels one by one to confirm their quality.
We then select for the final blending. After blending, the wine is bottled. While we bottle age the wine, the bottles rest in a special climate-controlled facility until they are showing their best, then released into the market.
