Bodegas Coto de Gomariz, was founded by Ricardo Carreiro Ameijeiras (Caco) in the 1970s, when he managed to return to his homeland after emigrating to South America like so many other Galicians and fulfil a dream: to make wines that were recognised all over the world and to restore Gomariz's prestige as a historic vineyard.
Among his achievements in the world of viticulture was his active collaboration in the gestation of the Ribeiro D.O. after his work as secretary of the Council of Leiro, where the first Galician wine cooperative was founded in 1957, writing the first statutes that later regulated the Ribeiro D.O.
Gomariz is known as the "Golden Mile" of Ribeiro. Since the 10th century, it has been the oldest wine-growing area in the Iberian Peninsula and has exceptional characteristics for the cultivation of vines.
