Bodegas Trenza was founded in Yecla (Murcia) in 2006 by David Tofterup, a Danish that found his soul and passion in Spain. His brother Jonas Tofterup, Master of Wine, is helping him in this complicated but exciting adventure of winemaking.
After having traveled the world gaining experiences with different grape varieties and wineries, the brothers decided to set up their own project, that could have given them the creative freedom with each wine they braid.
Actually, the winery's name, Trenza, means ‘’braid''. As the brothers explain it themselves, it refers to any object created by an interweaving of three or more separate strands of different materials in a diagonally overlapping pattern. ''A braided item would be preferred over an individual strand because the braid creates a stronger, more complex, and unique item. Generally, a braid is a braid, however, the colors, textures, materials and style allow each braid to be uniquely beautiful''.
Now the winery is working not only with the Yecla's local Monastrell variety, but also with other grapes from all over Spain, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah (Shiraz), Tempranillo, Garnacha Tintorera (Alicante Bouchet), as well as Viura, Verdejo and Sauvignon Blanc.
